The Get To Know Me Book Tag (Better Late Than Never!)

Jamie @ The Last Page tagged me with this Get to Know Me tag that she wrote the questions for way back in July. Since I'm having a bit of a hard time punching out reviews, I may as well complete some of these tags that I've put off for so long! Feel free to tag yourselves!

Me, feverishly happy after the Killers' concert, AKA best day of my life so far

About Me

Name: Litha

Birthday: July 6th

Eye Color: Blue, but going kind of gray lately

Hair Color: My natural hair color is light-ish ash brown, my chosen hair color is bordello red (AKA L'Oreal Paris's Feria "Cherry Crush"- it's darkish red with a hot pink undertone).

Tattoos: None, but I would consider a few of them.

Piercings: I used to have "normal" piercings in my ears, but I let them heal. I tend to overuse  bracelets and necklaces, so I probably don't need earrings too.

Torrie the Mini Direwolf

Currently

Eating / Drinking: Rooibos tea mixed with a bit of masala tea spice.

Wearing: Dark jeans, black ankle boots, and a mauve/subdued rose blouse with puff sleeves. For jewelry, I'm wearing my usual triquetra charm bracelet my aunt bought for me before she passed and a faux bling flower bauble necklace.

Single or Taken: Happily a bachelorette.

Pets: I have Torrie the mini direwolf, George the mini sabertooth, and Leia the weirdest dog ever. They all came from the shelter, and they all are very... interesting.

Reading: I'm trying to get through The Philosopher's Flight by Tom Miller, which makes it sound onerous, but it's actually so fascinating that I am taking my time to soak up all the details.

Watching: Psych (season 1-rewatching), Bones (the last season- I'm trying to pace myself on this rewatch), and #MeToo Now What? on PBS (which can be streamed for free if you're in the States).

Oscar Wilde being Oscar Wilde

My Favorites

Color: Purple, blue, and red (choosing one would be impossible!)

Hobbies: Gardening, reading, listening to music, and occasionally gaming.

Authors: Margaret Atwood, Oscar Wilde, Octavia E. Butler, and too many others to name.

Book Genres: Fantasy, sci-fi, and historical (with an emphasis on Gothic books). I like most things with a romantic bent to them, but sometimes I get burnt out by it.

Food & beverages: Right now I've been only eating high protein things and drinking tea because I've been so nauseous that I don't feel like eating. However, the exception to that rule appears to be dark chocolate (70%+ proof).

Television Shows: House M.D., Bones, Inspector Lewis, Sherlock, and Psych. I am a detective show junkie.

Films: The Princess Bride, Moulin Rouge, Pan's Labyrinth, V for Vendetta, and Rent.

Leia being a porch puppy

Reading Habits

Where is your favorite place to read? In the summer I tend to read while out on my porch, in the winter I (boringly) read inside instead of gathering icicles as a frozen statue on my front porch.

Do you ever read ahead or skip pages: The only time I recall doing this was with the final Harry Potter book. I read the final page to reassure myself.

Physical Books or Ebooks? I love physical books, but with my syringomyelia I have a hard time grasping them properly. I love ebooks for the convenience, and for the fact that my tablet is easier to grasp and takes more hard falls gracefully than any of my pretty physical copies.

Audiobooks? I only "read" audiobooks when I buy them along with a Kindle book- I'm hooked on visual learning.

Book Boyfriends/Girlfriends: This is a tough one, so I will give my middle-school self answer: Luthe from The Hero and the Crown!

My Angst Post from 2017's SSEP

My Future

Marriage: I could take it or leave it. I think as a kid who saw many dysfunctional and unhappy marriages around me, I'm more into commitment than I am ceremonial commitment. Plus, the divorce rate in the U.S. is yikes!.

Children: I love kids, but with my disabilities I'd worry about keeping up. I'd definitely need a partner in crime if I were to have children, or just adopt older kids. I have, of course, considered becoming a cat "child" hoarder, but George would be unhappy with that decision.

Career: Someday (someday!) I will finish off some of my books and publish them. Because I have a shelf-full of semi-done manuscripts, but all of them need a harsh dusting with a flamethrower. Otherwise, I have no current prospects- college would freak me out too much (for reasons) and I have embraced autodidactism to the point I get into arguments with a lot of college folks for education shaming. Not everyone can afford college, and even if it were affordable, a piece of paper with my name on it would mean nothing to me hanging on the wall. A piece of my own art would mean so much more.

Where Do You Want to Live? I would love to live in a bigger city than the one that I live in now. I hate having to travel 4 hours (there and back again) for my medical care.

What are your pursuits/goals for 2018? Which books are your favorites so far this year?

  1. I love this tag! I keep meaning to do it but I'm terrible with doing tags. I'm also a serious detective show junkie (I've been trying to stretch out my watching of Sherlock because I love it so much and I'll devastated when I get to the end of season 4! I haven't read The Name of the Wind yet but I've been told by all of my fantasy friends that it's one of the best high fantasies! I love seeing pictures of all your pets! I have two cats but since I'm away at university, I don't get to see them very often (that, and I like animals more than people...). I hope one day you'll be able to finish one of my manuscripts! I think the hardest part is just starting so don't be afraid to turn a rainy day into novel writing day :)

  2. Well, both blue and gray are pretty :-) Funny how eyes change color sometimes. Hair too. I feel like my eyes are greener than they used to be, but then maybe it's just cuz my eyes are so bloodshot and pink-rimmed from exhaustion that it brings out the green more lol. We are opposite in our jewelry choices btw. I never wear bracelets or necklaces cuz they just annoy me, but I used to have some rings, and I have 7 ear piercings. But dark chocolate, the color red, Moulin Rouge, and Princess Bride, I agree with you there. And hopefully we'll both get to publish books one day :-)

  3. Thanks- and obviously, I'm terrible with them too- this is one of many I've procrastinated out on indefinitely.
Sherlock is complete gold- I'd know, because I'm so obsessed I bought a t-shirt! Yeah, The Name of the Wind is worth reading, but I always warn people book #3 isn't out yet (and there are even more books planned) so I would wait if that bothers you.
That's too bad you don't get to see your cats as much (George keeps me in line, to be honest, so he's necessary). Thanks for the encouragement and stopping by and commenting, Laura!

  4. With the grayish tint, I feel like I'm being washed out completely (because I am Pale, capital P intentional), but yeah it's pretty. I guess Vitamin D deficiency can cause a grayish tint to your hair, which may explain mine being so smoky-looking when I had it natural.
That's interesting- my fingers are so large I have trouble finding feminine rings that fit them (and stay on) when I'm using the cane. 7 ear piercings! Wow, I guess I just would feel *more* nervous with every MRI that I would leave one in and get piercings in a less comfortable place.
Oh yes, we'll open a book-blogger only publishing house and form a review racket. If anyone could get away with it, it would be the book bloggers. ;)
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Kristen!

  5. Idk what's even going on with my hair. It changed color too with my illness, but I literally don't even know what color it is anymore. It's not even a color. It's like what happens when you mix all the paint together, and it looks different depending when you look at it lol.

The piercings were a fiasco when I had to get a bunch of MRIs and CT scans. After the first MRI, I had to rush to a piercing place right away cuz my holes had started closing and the piercings wouldn't even go back in. After that, for the next MRI, I had to travel all over to find some made of a certain material that you can wear in the machine, and I had to go to a piercing place to have someone change the earrings for me cuz it was too difficult. But I was determined not to lose my piercings, they mean a lot to me.

  6. I need some Sherlock merch ASAP! It's because of that (and my bookish obsessions) that I stay away from Etsy... It's dangerous for someone who loves to spend money on things that I only partially 'need'.
#3 isn't out yet?? Clearly I'm not paying attention... Yeah then I might just hold off because if I wait too long in between books, I end up just having to reread the whole series and with those gigantic books I'm less than enthusiastic about that.
    You're welcome!

  7. Fun tag! Love the pics of your direwolf and Leia. :) And I love reading outside in the summer- something about it. If you have a cool porch to relax and read on that is so awesome! A mini sabertooth sounds pretty awesome too!

  8. Thanks Greg! I enjoy my porch, and my various wild but tame animals. ;)

  9. My hair also does the weird color-change thing, but less so now that it's colored. But in the sun, it looks like fire-engine red, so that's cool.
Wow- I went into surgery once with my piercings in place, but with the MRIs you kind of have to take them off (and not bring in the metal-tipped cane, ugh). But good for you for keeping them despite the trouble! I know a lot of piercing can get very pricey because my brother had/has a lot of them (and it suits him).

  10. I don't go to Etsy, but I'm glad I don't- there are so many pretty things there that I've glimpsed from Twitter. My failing is tee-shirt shops with sales (Teefury, TeeTurtle)- I fall in love with the art on the t-shirt and then *have* to buy it. If I unsubscribed from those sites, I would have more money, but I would be nerdy t-shirt poor (and who likes that?).

  11. Litha you are so lovely! And your fur babies are the cutest! *_* I can't imagine living anywhere rural, I'm so used to beach cities. I hope that you can get some of your manuscripts finished because I'd love to read your books!

My goals for 2018 is to improve my career (I might be getting hired at a university which would be a dream!), lose weight, save up and start paying off debts, read more, and all around clean up my life and be happy again. Meeting someone would be cool but that is so far on the bottom of my life goals list that I'm barely even worrying about it.

I don't blame you with being hesitant about marriage with how high divorce rates are, and I can't even argue with the stats now that I'm on my way to divorce later this year as well. We certainly live in different times, though I think it's good that things are changing and relationships are being redefined.

As for reading this year, it's hard to say if I have any favorites. Marriage of a Thousand Lies turned out to be really good, most other books I've read so far have been 3 stars really? Or 4s and good but not anything I'd put down on a list of favorites.

I hope that your year goes well and I'm glad to see you blogging again!

  12. Thanks, Jamie! I can't imagine living near an ocean (which, I really haven't seen except from a screen) so I guess we're the same on that. :P We'll see on the manuscripts- some of them are difficult to look at for a perfectionist like me.

Oooh! I would love a uni job, but I'm afraid they'd fire me on account of breaking everything. Good luck with the weight loss- mine was kind of medication/stress-caused, I think (which is rare, but does happen). I'm glad you're focusing on yourself!

That's too bad that you haven't found a five star read yet, but I'm sure you will! I think I'm already reading my second five star read of 2018 and I've only read 2 books so far. O_o

Thanks for tagging me and commenting, Jamie!

  13. Oh, I am hooked on roobios! 🍵

I am happy you love purple. I found out during a book discussion with my son, a few weeks ago, that he had changed his life long favorite color from blue to purple at some point in his adult life. I wish I had known this because I definitely would have been buying him more purple for his wardrobe. Ha ha. 💜
